Meet Joe

Story:

Joe suffered a fractured skull at the age of 14. After being dropped from his father’s insurance when he turned 21, Joe had no case manager until the age of 31. Joe’s mother fought with the insurance company to get his claim reopened during that time, to no avail.

Challenge:

Although his injury had been diagnosed, Joe was not receiving the proper treatment, leaving him frustrated, angry and unable to cope. Both Joe and his mother were overwhelmed and exhausted. They knew they did not want a nurse care manager provided by the insurance company. However, not having been able to gain traction with Joe’s care for years, they were desperate for someone to step in and help.

Solution:

Alyson, an EHM case manager with 6 years of nursing experience, became Joe’s healthcare advocate in 2012. She wasted no time getting him the right treatment and care. When it came time to go to court to get Joe’s claim reopened, Alyson was there by his side, with the knowledge, expertise and steadfast commitment needed to help get Joe’s case back on track.

Result:

With the unwavering guidance, care and concern from Alyson, Joe lives a happier, more productive life. She has gone above and beyond to create the opportunities Joe needed to achieve success on his own terms. Today Joe is well adjusted and better able to cope with the world around him and his mother is no longer overwhelmed with the Joe’s care, making for a happier, healthier quality of life for both.

Meet Adam

Story:

Adam has lived with chronic and debilitating pain from a serious car accident since 2011. He is virtually immobile and requires daily assistance. On top of his physical impairments, he has a brain injury that makes it difficult to convey to doctors any medical or psychological issues he is experiencing.

Challenge:

Adam’s appointed case manager was not treating him with the respect he deserved. The inadequate care he was receiving made it impossible for him to keep a positive attitude. In short, the case manager’s uncaring demeanor was bringing him down and hindering his recovery. Adam needed a case manager who would treat him with kindness and compassion, not like he was a burden.

Solution:

The care and concern shown by Adam’s new case manager from Expert Health Management had an immediate effect on his wellbeing. Although he still had bad days, his outlook began to change for the better. Besides having the knowledge and expertise needed to speak for Adam during medial appointments, his EHM case manager truly cared about Adam, even going so far as to calling him family.

Result:

Adam looks forward to the interactions with his case manager. He can now approach life the way he prefers—with a sense of humor instead of anger and frustration. Adam can rest assured his needs are being met, and that every single aspect of his care is taken care of by people who are knowledgeable, capable, and, above all, compassionate.

Meet Chuck

Story:

Chuck had been managing his own case since his accident in the 1980’s. After twenty plus years, he was no longer able to do the research and follow up necessary to order, coordinate and receive the care, medical equipment and supplies he needed in a timely manner.

Challenge:

When the insurance claims adjuster Chuck had been working with retired, and his replacement became overloaded, that’s when Chuck decided he was ready for help. He had been managing both the insurance and health aspect of his care and needed a case manager with both medical knowledge and insurance expertise to take over.

Solution:

After hearing about Expert Health Management in 2003, Chuck decided to give them a try. His EHM case manager got to work immediately, getting Chuck whatever he needed. Additionally, his EHM case manager got Chuck another home modification evaluation and, making sure to be part of the evaluation team, made suggestions on which layout would improve his everyday living the most.

Result:

Chuck has been dealing with his medical care for so long, that there wasn’t much he didn’t know about his condition or treatment. Expert Health Management respectfully listened to Chuck while also asking his doctors the questions he had never thought to ask. By providing a safety net he could trust, Chuck is now free to concentrate on living his life, not having to worry about researching, coordinating and following up on his care.
